The International Glinka competition of vocalists is one of the most old, representative and prestigious Russian music competitions, held since the 1960s. The great singer and educator, a People’s Artist of the USSR, the Hero of Socialist Labor, and the laureate of the Lenin Prize and State Prize of the Russian Federation, an academician and a professor Irina Konstantinovna Arkhipova was the immutable Chairman of the Jury from 1968 till 2009. For the XXVI International competition in 2019, the Merited Artist of the Russian Federation, People’s Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, the laureate of the Tukai State Prize, the laureate of the 1st prize of the XXI International Glinka competition of vocalists Albina Shagimuratova is appointed to be the Chairman of the Jury.
The results of the competition have the great importance for the subsequent professional career of youthful artistes. Virtually all Russian singers and singers of CIS, steadily occupying the leading place on the Domestic and World Opera scene for decades, are the International Glinka competition laureates and diploma winners of different years. Among the winners of the competition there are Vladimir Atlantov, Alexander Voroshilo, Galina Gorchakova, Gegham Grigoryan, Sergey Leiferkus, Yuri Mazurok, Evgeny Nesterenko, Elena Obraztsova, Maria Gulegina, Olga Borodina, Dmitry Hvorostovsky, Vladimir Chernov, Anna Netrebko, Askar Abdrazakov, Ildar Abdrazakov, Sergey Murzaev, Olga Trifonova, Elena Manistina, Mikhail Kazakov, August Amonov, Anna Victorova, Albina Shagimuratova, etc.
Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Alexander Sladkovky
The Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra was created in 1966 due to the efforts of Nazib Zhiganov, former Chairman of the Composers Union of Tatarstan and Dean of the Kazan Conservatory. In 2010 the Honored artist of Russia (People’s Artist of Russia since 2016) Alexander Sladkovsky, with whom the TNSO opened the 45th concert season, was appointed the new Artistic Director and Chief Conductor.
The orchestra has entered a new phase since Maestro Sladkovsky came. Organized by the TNSO and Alexander Sladkovsky international music festivals such as Rakhlin Seasons, Miras, White Lilac, Kazan Autumn, Concordia, Denis Matsuev Meets Friends and Creative Discovery are considered ones of the most prominent events in cultural life of Tatarstan and Russia.
In 2014 the Mezzo TV channel recorded a concert of the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Alexander Sladkovsky for the first time. Since then concerts of the TNSO are recorded and broadcasted by Mezzo TV and Medici.tv channels every year. In December 2018, the TNSO and Maestro Alexander Sladkovsky made the first tour in China and in 2014 (Japan) and 2019 (France) the orchestra conducted by Alexander Sladkovsky performed at the La folle journée festival. One of the concerts of this festival in Nantes in 2019 was recorded and broadcasted by ARTE channel.
In the concert season 2018/19 TNSO under the direction of the artistic director and chief conductor, People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Sladkovsky became the first regional orchestra, which performed within its own Subscription at the Moscow State Philharmonic Society.
The People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Sladkovsky graduated from the Moscow and Saint Petersburg conservatories. He is a winner of the III International Prokofiev Competition. Since 2010 Alexander Sladkovsky is an Artistic Director and a Chief Conductor of the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra in the city of Kazan (Tatarstan, Russia), which he transformed into one of the finest orchestras in Russia. The TNSO under the direction of Alexander Sladkovsky is the first Russian regional orchestra recorded by Medici.tv and Mezzo channels.
Alexander Sladkovsky collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as D. Matsuev, Y. Bashmet, L. Debarg, R. Capuçon, J.-Y. Thibaudet, V. Repin, N. Znaider, L. Kavakos, M. Brunello, D. Hvorostovsky, I. Abdrazakov, and the others. TNSO under the direction of Alexander Sladkovsky for the first time in the orchestra’s history gave concerts during a European tour in the Brucknerhaus (Linz) and in the Golden Hall of Musikverein (Vienna), made the first tour in China, performed at the International Festival of Piano Music La Roque d’Anteron (France)and at the La folle journée festival in Japan and France.
In 2012 were released two CD boxes on Sony Music and RCA Red Seal labels. In 2016 in cooperation with the Melodiya record label several global musical projects were realized: the recording of three symphonies of G. Mahler (Nos. 1, 5, 9) and also recordings of all symphonies and concertos of D. Shostakovich. In 2016, Alexander Sladkovsky was awarded the prize “Conductor of the Year” by the national newspaper The Musical Review and “Person of the Year in Culture” according to the online newspaper Business Online.
